EC Regulation 834/07 contains EU-wide regulations for the production, processing, trade and importation of ecological products. The inspection procedure for imported goods has been regulated in detail in the EU Ecological Directive to ensure that organic goods outside Europe also meet these requirements and that they undergo inspection procedures equivalent to the European system.
Certification that follows this EC Regulation makes it easier to market ecological commodities produced outside Europe.
For commodities from countries that are not in the EU and do not appear in the list of third countries (Appendix to part III of EC Regulation No. 1235/2008) to be imported into the European Union and marketed as being ecological, the following requirements must be met:
- The commodity must be produced and processed according to production regulations that are equivalent to the EU Ecological Directive.
- The manufacture of a commodity must undergo an inspection procedure.
- The inspection body in the country of production must fulfil the conditions of the EN 45011 and ISOGuide 65 standards.
- The importer of the commodity must undergo the inspection procedure dictated by the EU Ecological Directive.
- The importer must ensure that the importation of the commodity is authorized by the proper Authority. In Germany, authorization for the importation of ecological products is issued on request by the Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung.
- The commodity may only be imported into the European Union and marketed as ecological when authorization for importation has been issued in accordance with the customs regulations in force (EU Customs Directive N. 1788/2001, updated No. 1918/2002).
ABCERT is a skilled and reliable partner for issuing certifications for your company according to the EC Regulation.
For such certification, ABCERT is happy to support countries that are not members of the EU and do not appear on the list of so-called third countries (Appendix III of EC Regulation No.1235/2008).
As a recognized inspection body accredited against the EN 45011 standard, we ensure that the manufacture and processing of ecological products in your company adhere to the provisions of the EU Ecological Directive.
Once a year, experienced inspectors from ABCERT will inspect your entire company, covering:
- Operational areas (warehouse and handling facilities) and Production
- Sequence of operations and flow of goods
- Goods inwards and goods outwards documentation
Unannounced random inspections and re-inspections will be carried out in addition to the organised inspections.
If your company meets the requirements of the EC Regulation, you will receive your certificate from ABCERT. This entitles you to label your products as "ecological" or "organic" and import them into the European Union as such.
We welcome your enquiry if you are interested in having your company certified according to EC Regulation equivalence, and will be happy to supply you with further information in person.
